An army porter was injured on Saturday after accidentally stepping on a landmine near the Line of Control in Poonch district, officials said.
The injured has been identified as Zulufqar Ahmad (24), a resident of Slotri-Patiya village. The incident occurred at around 2:10 pm in a forward area of the Mankote sector.
Officials said the forward areas along the LoC are part of an anti-infiltration obstacle system and are dotted with landmines. During rains, some landmines get washed away from their original positions, occasionally leading to such accidents.
The injured porter was immediately evacuated and shifted to a hospital for treatment. His condition is stated to be stable.
