India’s athletics scene witnessed a historic moment as sprinter Gurindervir Singh became the fastest man in the country after clocking an incredible 10.09 seconds in the men’s 100m event, breaking the national record and scripting a new chapter in Indian track and field history.
The landmark achievement came during the National Senior Federation Competition in Ranchi, where Gurindervir became the first Indian athlete ever to complete the 100m sprint in under 10.10 seconds. His sensational run surpassed his previous national record of 10.20 seconds and immediately drew comparisons with sprint legend Usain Bolt on social media.
Originally from Punjab’s Patial village near Jalandhar, Gurindervir’s journey has been one of determination and resilience. Reports stated that after setting his earlier record last year, many doubted whether he could reproduce such performances consistently. However, his latest sprint silenced critics and firmly established him as India’s premier sprinter.
Apart from being an elite athlete, Gurindervir also serves as a Petty Officer in the Indian Navy. The Navy congratulated him after the historic feat, proudly calling him the “fastest man in India who wears whites.”
The achievement sparked celebrations across Punjab and the Indian sporting fraternity. Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar described the performance as a “phenomenal achievement,” while industrialist Anand Mahindra hailed Gurindervir as a symbol of India’s growing ability to compete at the highest level in global athletics.
Following the race, Gurindervir reportedly made his first call home to his mother, asking emotionally, “Mummy, did you see the race?” — a moment that resonated with sports fans across the country.
Sports experts believe Gurindervir Singh’s record-breaking performance could mark the beginning of a new era for Indian sprinting, inspiring a generation of young athletes to dream bigger on the international stage.
