Who is Bana Singh?
Bana Singh is a legendary soldier of the Indian Army and a recipient of the nation’s highest gallantry award, the Param Vir Chakra. He served in the 8 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (8 JAK LI) and is best known for his extraordinary bravery during Operation Meghdoot at the Siachen Glacier.
In 1987, during a critical mission to capture a strategically vital post held by enemy forces at extreme altitude and harsh weather conditions, Bana Singh led a daring assault. Despite facing heavy resistance, sheer cliffs, and sub-zero temperatures, he successfully captured the post through close combat, displaying exceptional courage, leadership, and determination. The post was later named “Bana Top” in his honour.
For his unparalleled valour and devotion to duty, Bana Singh was awarded the Param Vir Chakra. He later retired with the honorary rank of Captain and continues to be a symbol of courage, resilience, and inspiration for the Indian Armed Forces and the nation.
