Kathua, September 11, 2026: Two people were killed and three others injured after a Maruti Baleno car met with a serious road accident at Sarthal Mode in Bani tehsil of Kathua district on Friday.
According to officials, the accident initially claimed the life of 29-year-old Monika, wife of Suveer Kotwal, a resident of Dandi Bhaderwah.
Another passenger, identified as 61-year-old Balwant Kotwal, son of Bajnath Kotwal and a resident of Dandi Bhaderwah, sustained injuries in the accident and later succumbed during treatment, taking the death toll to two.
The three injured have been identified as Suveer Kotwal, 33, son of Balwan Singh; Parshanta Kotwal, 59, son of Balwant, both residents of Bhaderwah; and Vikram Singh, 33, son of Ranjeet Singh, a resident of Purkhu Damana, Jammu.
The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment following the accident. Further details regarding their condition were not immediately available.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated further proceedings to ascertain the circumstances that led to the crash.
The accident has once again highlighted concerns over road safety on hilly stretches of the Kathua-Bani region, where road conditions and difficult terrain can pose additional risks to commuters.
