J&K’s Mohd Yasser Creates History, Wins Gold at Asian U-15 Boxing Championships

India delivered a dominant performance at the Asian Boxing U-15 Championships 2026 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, finishing with an impressive haul of 27 medals, including nine gold medals. Among the standout performers was Jammu & Kashmir’s young boxing sensation Mohd Yasser, who scripted history by clinching the gold medal in the 58kg category.

The talented boxer from Rajouri defeated Uzbekistan’s Abdulloh Karimjonov in a closely contested final with a 3-2 split decision to secure the top podium finish. His victory added one of the two gold medals won by the Indian U-15 boys’ team during the continental championship.

Yasser’s journey to the gold medal was remarkable throughout the tournament. Before reaching the final, he delivered dominant performances against opponents from Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and Iran. In the semifinal, he registered a convincing 5-0 victory over Iran’s Seyyedariyamohammad Mousa to enter the title clash.

The achievement is being celebrated across Jammu & Kashmir, especially in Rajouri, as Mohd Yasser became one of the first young boxers from the Union Territory to win gold at the Asian level in the U-15 category. Trained under coach Ishtyaq Malik at the Khelo India Centre in Rajouri, the young pugilist has emerged as a rising star in Indian boxing.

India topped the U-15 girls’ medal standings with seven gold medals, while the overall Indian contingent finished with nine gold, six silver, and twelve bronze medals, showcasing the country’s growing dominance in youth boxing across Asia.
