Islamabad, Feb 6:
At least five people were killed and several others injured when a suicide bomber detonated himself inside a shrine in Pakistan’s capital on Friday, officials said.
The blast took place at a Shia shrine in the Tarlai area of Islamabad, causing panic among devotees present at the site. Security forces and rescue teams rushed to the spot immediately after the explosion, while the injured were shifted to nearby hospitals.
Police officials said the bomber entered the shrine premises before carrying out the attack. The area was cordoned off, and a search operation was launched to rule out the presence of any additional threats. Forensic teams also reached the site to collect evidence as part of the investigation.
Authorities have described the incident as a terror attack. However, no group had claimed responsibility for the blast till the filing of this report.
Condemning the incident, officials said security has been tightened across the capital, particularly around religious places and sensitive installations. Further details are awaited as investigations continue.
